The Divine Feminine

A Portrait of Motherhood, Art, and the Divine Feminine

Every so often, an idea arrives like a whisper from somewhere deeper, a feeling more than a thought.
That’s how this photoshoot began.

I wanted to create a portrait that would honor motherhood as both a physical transformation and a spiritual unfolding. Something that captured the divine feminine: soft yet powerful, tender yet unbreakable, earthly yet sacred.

While researching artistic inspiration, I stumbled upon a painting that stopped me in my tracks.
A woman, draped in feathers, holding her belly with a quiet strength — the perfect union of creation and protection. That image stayed with me. It felt like a visual poem about motherhood.

But I knew that for my vision, the bird couldn’t be just any bird. It had to be a peacock.

Across cultures, the peacock symbolizes renewal, feminine strength, protection, and divine beauty. For motherhood, the symbolism is even deeper: the peacock represents evolution, rebirth, and the sacred responsibility of carrying new life.

With that clarity, I reached out to my dear friend and artist, Dany Petiote, someone whose creativity has always carried a touch of magic. I shared the inspiration image and the vision forming in my heart. Without hesitation, she was onboard. And almost instantly, she saw what I couldn’t yet imagine — a handmade peacock jacket that would reveal the beauty of the belly while draping the body in feathers, color, and symbolism.

For weeks, Dany poured herself into the piece. She selected materials, shaped each element, and sculpted a garment that felt less like clothing and more like art. Every feather, every detail was intentional. She would send updates, glimpses of texture, movement, shimmer, and each time, I felt the vision becoming more real.

Then came the day of the big reveal. Watching Dany unveil the finished jacket felt like witnessing a dream made tangible. It was breathtaking — a fusion of craftsmanship and emotion, perfectly designed to frame the mother’s belly like a sacred vessel while letting the feathers cascade like a blessing. The photoshoot that followed was everything I hoped for. The mother glowed. The jacket moved with her as if it had grown from her own skin. The images carry a blend of art, mythology, and the fierce softness of motherhood.

It reminded me why I do what I do. Photography, at its core, is storytelling. And some stories ask to be told not just with light and shadow, but with symbolism, artistry, and collaboration.

This peacock maternity session is one of those stories. It is a reminder that motherhood is a masterpiece. That the divine feminine is alive in every curve and every breath. And that when women create together — whether through motherhood or through art — something truly magical emerges.
